10 Apr 2008 Sara's Weeknight Meals -- Wow. This one flew so low under the radar I nearly missed it. (Alas, PBS shows are always like that though, aren't they? Never any commercials for them. Never any pre-marketing on their own network. You either get lucky looking or you find it months after it's been on.) Fortunately this new show starts this week. Celebrity chef and cookbook author Sara Moulton returns to 200 public television stations -- check here for location, day and time -- on Sara's Weeknight Meals, her new 20-episode cooking show series. ... {More...}

05 Apr 2008 ©2008 Harry Kenney So why haven't I talked about Top Chef more? Wny not give a weekly recap or review? You see, if you have a show like Hell's Kitchen or Last Restaurant Standing or some of the others, you get one chance of seeing what you missed the following week. With Top Chef, however, let's admit it, Bravo gives you three more chances the very night; you heard me, within the first six hours of the first episode of that week you have no less than three more chances. And then, over the course of the ... {More...}

31 Mar 2008 So the first-ever Pebble Beach Food and Wine Festival finally happened and ended last night. It was definitely a rousing success. Let me quickly mention my irritation at what ever San Francisco Chronicle copy room hack came up with the misleading headline of: For $4,750, foodies eat up the chance to see famous chefs in person Compare the headline to the very last sentence in the article: "Per-person cost for the four-day Pebble Beach Food & Wine extravaganza ranges from $100 for a single class or seminar to $4,750 for lodging and admission to all events." In short, ... {More...}

Food Buzz: Tom the Bear; FN Self-Bios Itself; Rachael Not Leaving

Chefography, Duff Goldman, Feature, Rachael Ray, Tom Colicchio, Top Chef, Wolfgang Puck
23 Mar 2008 Lot's of "food buzz" around the Net this past week on a few different things. The loudest was over the "text poll" conducted Wednesday on Top Chef where the question was "which animal is Tom Colicchio" and the overwhelming answer was "bear". This caused a major gigglefest amongst the gay community, blogs and forums alike. With Gawker being a prime example with their "Colicchio Outed" headline, albeit tounge-in-cheek: Last night's challenge, in which chefs were asked to design a menu based on the diets of five animals, seemed an elaborate set up to make the joke, as mathnet did ... {More...}

It Had to Happen: A ‘Top Chef’ Urban Myth is Born

TV Food Shows, Top Chef
19 Mar 2008 With Top Chef on this evening (episode two of season four, if you're counting), time for (what else?) but another "TC tidbit" (patent pending on that phrase.) Today's oddity comes from Eater LA: Eater LA did a little research and found a trend among the winners of the three previous seasons of Top Chef: each one was featured prominently in the center of the ads for the show. Therefore, they say, LA chef Antonia will be the clear winner. The argument is tenuous at best, but based on their evidence, we'd put our money on SF chef Erik (actual center) or NY ... {More...}
